ADELE BARBARO

Over the last couple of weeks, I have really become aware of just how precious my eyes are. Most of you would know I had an eye infection and I had to see a specialist. I was asked lots of questions about my eye health and as the appointment when on, I knew that my sight and eye health was certainly not at its best and I had not been looking after them.
.
I used to wear glasses back in high school but at the time, I thought they were daggy so I barely wore them and have not worn them since. 19 years ago! These days, there is so much choice and they are far more fashionable. Considering both my parents and sister wears them and my grandma has glaucoma, I felt a bit silly for not have made it a priority. Paul is just as bad! He couldn’t tell me when he had his checked last!
.
I also suffer from migraines and anyone that gets them will know bow debilitating they can be. It wipes out my whole day. I feel like I have been hit by a train. First my vision becomes flickery and then when it subsides, on comes the monster head ache. It has made me think that it could be my eyes contributing to them too?
.
So, I have got my act together and booked not just myself, but the whole family in at our local independent optometrist for an eye assessment tomorrow. I know that Harvey is at a perfect age for it and Chloe is coming too. After doing my research and a few phone calls, I decided on an independently, Aussie owned and operated optometrist because they have that real care factor. @provisionoptometry have been amazing so far so if you are looking to do an eye assessment for you and your family, I have a link in bio to find an optometrist near you.
.
I would love to hear your experiences on eye health. Do you suffer from migraines? What has helped you? And have you been to have an eye assessment recently?

@melherezo: I have suffered from migraines from a young age 🤨 I regularly have my eyes checked, but don’t require glasses. I know take a migraine preventer and it has been a life changer 🙌🏼 I still get them, but no where near as often or intense.

@threeisforme: Good call. I let my eye care slip. I forced myself to go and have been diagnosed as pre-glaucoma. Thankfully I know to monitor and catch it before it worsens. I would never have known until it was too late if I left it.

@real_mumma: @threeisforme oh my grandma has that and I want to get into it before it worsens

@mooosey88: Like you I left it ages to get my eyes checked, easily 10 years approx since my last assessment! I too would get migraines and be sensitive to light. Turned out I have astigmatism. I have since purchased new glasses, adjusted my backlight settings on my phone/computer screens and found this has helped me no end. They even offered blue light filters in my lenses.

@mrs_shields89: Good on you! I've worn glasses since 5.. I'm now 30! I've gone 6 monthly, then yearly now I go every 2 years due to stability in my script! Eye health is very important to me!

@kyliekvg: I get mine and my kids eyes checked regularly because there’s family history of glaucoma and macular degeneration.....my dad (who suffers from both) keeps me in check! 👍🏻

@missy_coutts: I actually just had my eyes tested today. I'm an occasional glasses wearer. Should wear them more than I do. I notice it is usually linked to how tired I am - which then causes headaches if I don't wear them. I'm slowly getting more used to them though 👍

@planesandplaydates: I get a free eye check done every couple of years at the local optometrist. Just need your medicare card. Good for peace of mind. I haven't taken my boy for a check yet as he is only three. What age do they start from?

@__staceeyx: Ive never ever had my eyes tested, im 29 .. whoops

@real_mumma: @kyliekvg my grandma has macular degeneration too :(

@__staceeyx: @mooosey88 my daughter and partner have astigmatism .. we have to patch our daughters eye, thankfully shes young and we got onto it so we can rectify it as much as possiblr

@threeisforme: @real_mumma absolutely. I have a bilateral optic nerve which is a big precursor for it - never knew till I got a proper check! If you get it early there are so many options to slow it down.

@dan.1711: Definitely getting your eyes checked is an awesome idea. I too suffer from horrendous migraines that knock me flat & put me in a very dark room for about 16 hours 😖 I wear glasses for reading and computer work but they haven’t made any difference to the migraines 🙄 after 30 years of suffering ... I’m always on the look out for something that might help 🤷‍♂️

@jodielee287: Yep!! I wear contacts every day and get stupid headaches too! I’m wayyyyy over due for a check up on my prescription 😬 will be booking Laila & myself tomorrow 👌🏻thanks for the reminder x

@sarah8frances: I suffer from persistent chalazions in my eyelids ( like those lumps in your eyelids atm). Have actually lost count of the amount I’ve had surgically removed over the last 10 years! And since having my daughter my health has definitely been put on the back burner which isn’t good for me or for my daughter! We have to look after ourselves so we can look after our babies! And especially so we can SEE them grow up! Love your page! You’re gorgeous x hope your eye tests go well!

@tiffy81: I have also realised just how important looking after my eyes are!! Seems so silly to have not thought about it but after having lash extensions on and off for the past 2 years I had an allergic relation to them at my last refill (same place, same glue etc my eyes just reacted to them) I ended up with severely swollen tear ducts from irritation for two weeks, saw an amazing optometrist on 3 occasions over 2 weeks due to my eyes just overflowing with tears all day long I had tears streaming down my face it was horrible and finally my precious eyes are back to normal 🙌🏼 Safe to say the lashes were taken off and I think I have a new found respect for the care of my eyes! 💛

@jessdavis407: I have suffered from migraines since I was little - My Grandma gets horendous Migraines too! But I know what you feel towards them Adele - they can be so debilitating! When I have a bad one, the throbbing is sometimes indescribable, every little noise sounds 10 times louder and every movement you make is not worth doing! I do have glasses for reading or tv purposes but haven't worn them in over 3years.....Glaucoma is in the family. So I better drag out the specs and dust them off 😂😉❤

@roses.are.pink: My migraine started at 3pm yesterday and finished around 10am today 😣. My migraines come with my period every month and totally wipe me out. Dealing with two small ids with a migraine is so hard and there has been a lot of screen time. But like I always say. You do what you gotta.

@alisaheck: Value your eyes. I was lucky as my glaucoma was caught really early when i was 39. Suffered migraines since I was a teenager. Had the pressure in my eyes tested and it was through the roof. Hence the glaucoma diagnosis. Not saying all migraines lead to glaucoma but always get it checked 🙂

@keriam82: @real_mumma I suffer horrible migraines that can last for days. Have a history of glaucoma, I wear glasses and see the optometrist every year.

@laurenbrant: My gf @the.mummy.trainer has been suffering from migraines and being dizzy - there’s more to figure out but she got her eyes tested and now has glasses!!! 💕

@mariavrbesic: I have had laser to correct short sightedness so I am all about eye health!

@kristelbell: I didn’t get glasses until I started uni and realised that no one else in the back row had trouble seeing the board during lectures 😂 12 years later I change mine up every 2-3 years and am obsessed with the Alex Perry range!

@everydaykmart: You’ve inspired me to book my whole family in for an eye check! On my to-do list for tomorrow 👍🏼 I too get migraines with an aura (that lovely, zigzagging vision disturbance at the beginning 🤢) but luckily for me they seem to be becoming less regular as I get older. I think mine were also worse when I used to take the pill, and when I do get them these days they always tend to coincide with ovulation so are definitely hormone related in my case. Another perk to being a woman 🙄😉

@bec.mild: Reminds me that I should get my kids eyes checked again. One of my 3 yr olds suffers from migraines.

@mrspk2015: 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thank you for supporting local Independent Optometry 😎🤓😎🤓

@kyliekvg: @real_mumma it’s definitely hard to see our parents/grandparents getting older 😕

@estellelouisep: I’ve worn glasses since high school and am a migraine sufferer, under the care of a neurologist. Unfortunately the glasses don’t help with the migraines but I regularly get my eyes checked. My eyes still haven’t stopped changing and it’s a new script for me every time - I’m blind as a damn bat!! As a migraine patient I am on daily meds (preventative) and then I have meds for the acute treatment of migraines when they hit. I was getting them weekly but now it’s down to bi-monthly (ish). Far more manageable. Praise be drugs 🙌🏻

@karly_w_: Massive advocate for eye health especially for my children. My eldest son has worn glasses since he was three and regularly sees an opthamologist. Last year (he was 13) he had optic neuritis and completely lost vision in his left eye. Our optometrist sent us straight to the Children's hospital after finding he had a swollen optical nerve. After being admitted to hospital and given IV steroids and 6 weeks worth of steroids at home, his sight finally returned, not straight away, it took several months but it made me realise how important our sight is and we should take care of it! Needless to say, we all have regular eye assessments. Oh and btw I suffer from migraines too and always have so I feel your pain, not related to my eyes (or anything else I can find) but they suck none-the-less.

@beca2903: Oh my goodness, so timely! I just had my eyes checked. I only need glasses for work on the computer. However I made a decision on the weekend to try out the @baxterblue_ blue light glasses, to wear for phone/tv time etc. And oh my goodness the difference I have noticed in 3 days is amazing! No headaches/strained eyes. I feel like I’m not as tired and sleeping better too! Definitely recommend them!

@kat.smitheram: I get mine check every 12 to 24 months. I’ve worn glasses for distance work since 16 and work them full time since 20. At 36, I now need to be wearing glasses to find my glasses if the kids move them 🤦🏻‍♀️ My 2 year old hands them to me first thing when he wants me to get out of bed. My dad has worn glasses for as long as I can remember. He had a retina detach about 7 years ago and ended up loosing vision in that eye. He’s had at least 10 operations on that eye and it was devastating when they discovered there was just too much scar tissue! Often, we don’t value something until we almost loose it!

@jmck6653: Anything like that in your family ...you should be under an eye specialist. I have glaucoma ...in the family genes, dry eye syndrome, had to have radial keratotomys due to poor eyesight, cataract removed, 2 new lenses.... never take your sight for granted. I swear by the Lions Eye Institute and their wonderful specialists.

@miiz_sez: I did the same thing as a teen and purposely broke all my glasses so I didn’t have to wear them, so my mum gave up. Then after 15 years I got my eyes tested and my optometrist was in disbelief of how bad my eyesight was and how I’d managed to go so long without glasses! Now that I have them I actually don’t get strain headaches much or anything. & can see heaps better obviously 😃

@amye9189: @roses.are.pink omg! I'm the same😤😤😤

@aiya_australia: 🙌🏼🙌🏼
