Data collection plan (15 marks) Plan for the exploratory data analysis (15 marks) Planning the regression and correlation analysis (15 marks) Referencing and background research planning (5 marks) Guidance on Completing the Data Analysis Plan Sheet Data Collection Plan As part of this research, you will need to collect a sample of data. You need to decide how you are going to take the sample and what data you need to record for each item in the sample. Thinking this through before you collect the data can save you a lot of time. It is very frustrating to find that you are missing a vital piece of information during the analysis stage, and very time consuming (and not always possible) to go back and collect missing data. Remember, you are also trying to obtain a valid and representative sample from a population. You need to think carefully about how you are going to achieve this before you start the data collection. In the first stage of your analysis, you look closely at each of your collected variables individually; e.g., take a column of data and investigate whether outliers, gaps or clusters are present in the data, look at measures of central tendency and look at the variation. Explore whether there is any difference between categories or groups. To do this you will need to use summary statistics and graphs. Different statistics and graphs are suitable for different situations and types of data. It is useful in the planning stage to consider the types of data you will have and work out which graphs will be most appropriate. For each variable listed in part cii), record on your data analysis plan The data type (e.g. continuous, text, discrete) Which summary statistics will be used for your analysis Which graph(s) you are intending to use to analyse each variable Planning the Correlation and Regression Analysis The second stage of the analysis will be an investigation into the relationship between two variables. Decide which variable you are going to use for the independent variable and which will be the dependent variable. Also, consider which statistics and plots you intend to use in this section and decide how you will test the fit of your regression equation. Planning for problems When you begin the actual data collection and analysis, there may be things that do not go to plan. It can be useful to consider some of these in advance as well. For example, what will you do if you click on a film and the data you need is missing for that film? What will you do if you analyse a variable and discover a problematic outlier? Deciding how to handle commonly occurring issues in advance can save time during analysis. Referencing and Background Research In academic work, you need to support your discussion with academic references. If you make a specific decision (for example, to use a convenience sample rather than a simple random sample), you can support your choice with a reference. Consider how you might use background research to investigate interesting results from your analysis; how are you going to support your ideas and suggestions about what has occurred in your analysis. You can plan to do this from the start of a study and it is useful to have some sources to hand that could help support your research. 1000 words essay(analyzing excel required)+ excel
