EXAMINE THE ROLE OF THE REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSE IN DELIVERING HIGH-QUALITY HEALTH CARE

This project is an end-of-program assignment. At the end of the ASN program students will use the nursing process to apply leadership and management principles to analyze the health status, health potential, and environmental influences the affect health care delivery within organization. Students will apply the nursing process to identify gaps and strengths and weaknesses in healthcare delivery in a particular organizational context. This aptitude is vital in assisting the graduate RN to understand and partake in effective strategies for participation in the delivery of quality health care and ensuring that the safety of the patient is first. This assessment will assist the student in attaining the knowledge and skills necessary to attain competency in meeting the following end of program student learning outcomes (SLOs): SLO 1 Integrate into professional nursing practice the ability to consider the complex, unique and holistic nature of persons as individuals who are worthy of respect, dignity, with basic human needs and the ability to interact with society SLO 2: Use the nursing process to analyze heath status, health potential, and environmental influences of individuals, families and communities. SLO 3: Incorporate knowledge of the health sciences, technology, and humanities into providing nursing care to promote and maximize health. SLO 4: Provide, safe, caring, holistic nursing care that maximizes an individual’s ability to engage in self-care that supports optimal health. SLO 5: Communicate in a professional manner in order to collaborate effectively with other health disciplines, individuals, and families in the provision of health care. SLO 6: Integrate critical thinking by using the nursing process and research to inform clinical decision making.

SLO 7: Engage in the practice of professional nursing within the legal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks of the associate degree nurse. SLO 8: Utilize principles of management and leadership in diverse nursing situations and settings. SLO 9: Assume responsibility for personal, and professional growth. Upon completion of the ASN 250 PROFESSIONAL INTEGRATION PROJECT will be able to: Utilize decision making when acting as a leader, manager, or follower by enlarging the view of the individual, family, or community being cared for to include the social network and organizational context. (SLO 2, 3, 4 & 8) Develop skills to recognize patient care concerns or issues in order to advocate for quality and safety. (SLO 1, 6, 8, 9) Analyze the importance of a nursing issues by investigating relevant research. (SLO 6) Summarize research and relate it to a selected nursing leadership/management/patient care concern or issue. (SLO 6 & 8) Describe the impact of a leadership/management/patient care concern or issue on the staff and/or the delivery of patient. (SLO 1, 2 & 5) Analyzes the impact of a leadership/management/patient care concern or issue relation to the goals, philosophy and mission of a health care institution. (SLO 1, 2 & 8) Examine the role of the registered professional nurse in delivering high-quality health care. (SLO 4, 6, 7 & 8) Describe the legal authority of the registered nurse in patient care situations. (SLO 7 & 8) Discuss moral/ethical and its implications for patient care and safety, as well as for nurses and nurse managers. (SLO 1, 2, 7, 8, & 9) Evaluate the impact of patient and hospital factors, nurse characteristics, nurse staffing, and other organizational factors that influence nurse and patient outcomes. (SLO 5, 6, & 8)
