Library Assignment: Research papers shall cover a topic covered in the text. The paper is to be a minimum of three pages (excluding title and reference pages), typed, double-spaced, in APA format. The research paper shall be submitted as a .doc or text file (please no .docx files). The research paper shall be submitted for grading by Saturday of week three and will be graded as follows: 20% on content, 20% on spelling & grammar, 20% on length, 20% on clarity of thought, 20% on bibliography & references. Assignment: Using the University electronic library find a full-text, scholarly article/journal on a topic that is related to OSHA Standards, and is of interest to you. You may choose a specific topic right out of the text or you could find a subject from one of the construction industry publications found in the EU library or e-library. The requirements for this type of assignment is for you to fully develop a narrowly focused topic that properly cites the sources used. Discuss your thoughts about the relevance and quality of the article/journal. Do not copy and paste the abstract. I will know if you do. Abstracts are verified. Use your own words. Plagiarism: Please do not make the mistake of “borrowing” text from a website or other source material without attribution. The essay assignment in this course is to be based on your research, personal knowledge, experience and not on the ideas or information provided by another writer. This is not to say that you may not occasionally embellish your article with an appropriate quotation or statistic but the source of information or author of the quote should be mentioned in the text of your paper using APA format. Any unauthorized copying of work will be dealt with harshly. The student will receive zero credit for the assigned essay and, depending on the severity of the incident, may fail the course, be placed on probation, or expelled from the school. Please be aware that it is generally very easy to detect cheating by copying, and it is simply not worth the risk to try it. Instructors would rather grant a student an extension to complete his or her own work than to see the student take an unauthorized shortcut. Cutting and pasting materials from a website with minor alterations is still plagiarism.
