Research and pick three different current topics of debate in healthcare. Choose topics that are controversial in healthcare.
This week we are learning about writing a strong thesis and introduction! Both are in the same paragraph. The thesis statement is one sentence and sets the tone for your entire paper. IT IS NEVER A QUESTION!The introduction (5-8 sentences) should grab the attention of the reader and make them want to continue reading. These two items flow from one to the next as one paragraph for an introduction. The Thesis can be at the beginning of the introduction or a sentence at the end but it is not separate!Discussion Question Assignment: Writing STRONG ARGUMENTATIVE THESES.1. Research and pick three different current topics of debate in healthcare. Choose topics that are controversial in healthcare. Your main essay topic may be one of the three, but it is not necessary. The statement may or may not reflect your actual view.2. Write a strong argumentative thesis statement for each of the topics you choose. All should be strongly argumentative which means the topic needs to be somewhat controversial (this does not mean these are your beliefs – you are just practicing writing the thesis to spark emotion in another). Remember: Thesis statements are only ONE sentence in length, NOT A QUESTION; just stating the topic and stance; any support comes from the introduction which is not part of this discussion assignment. I just want your one sentence theses listed. Several strong words to consider using to make your stance in an argumentative thesis statement include: “should”, “should be”, “is the key”, “should no longer”, “demands” – these words interjected into your thesis sentence tells the reader where you stand and what to expect from the paper – you don’t have to agree with the statement; the assignment is to see if you can WRITE one. CHOOSE TOPICS THAT EVOKE EMOTION EITHER FOR OR AGAINST! If you state that “Education is the key to preventing diabetic complications” as a thesis statement; this typically won’t be argued against – Choose topics that will be argued for or against and spark passion in another!
