Women in Film Paper Introduction This writing assignment provides the opportunity to react to the depiction of American women in film. From the list provided below or films you have previously watched, select a film to analyze. The topics range from female successes to female struggles, from trials to triumphs, from tragedy to success. The film analysis assignment provides proof that film has become a visual diary of important female figures and important female issues in America through the portrayals of a broad range of women. The Assignment Select a film. The review must have proper film documentation with title, director, studio and year of release. The essay should identify the film in the first paragraph and have a clear purpose. A review is not a plot summary. Students may decide to read some sample reviews in magazines, newspapers and reference works; however, it is important to avoid plagiarizing parts of the review. In the review of the film several aspects must be considered, but not necessarily in this order: Analyze the film point of view. How does it present women and does it present them in different roles? Identify the characters and analyze the roles they play throughout the film. How do they compare and/or contrast to the women in the course reading? Does the film support or contrast with the text discussion of women? Provide specific comparisons/contrasts to women and terms in used in this course. Use quotes and/or page references that connect information gleaned from this course with events depicted on screen. If the film is based on a historic person or event, how factual is it?
