Label part 1 and part 2 Nurse leaders who are responsible for managing employees often work with a business partner from the human resources department. One of the primary factors that determines a department or unit’s success is having the right employees, but finding and hiring the right employees is sometimes difficult. Having an HR business partner to assist with the hiring process will improve the likelihood of staffing the department or unit with the right people. This assignment is divided into two parts spanning two weeks. In Part 1 you create an interview tool and schedule an interview with the director of the HR department. In Part 2 you conduct the interview and write a report detailing the findings from the interview. This interview provides you with practice in interviewing and the opportunity to cultivate an important relationship. Create an interviewing tool with an introduction about why you are requesting an interview and the questions you will ask the interviewee, which will include: Questions to identify his or her goals and objectives. Questions to assess how well the HR department interfaces with the nursing department. Questions to determine how the HR department helps with finding and hiring candidates. Questions about when to seek help during reviews and managing issues. Contact the director of the HR department to set up an appointment to conduct the interview. The interview can be conducted in person, via telephone, or via video conferencing. Note: If the director of HR is not available to interview locate an alternate staff member who can make decisions on behalf of the department. Part 2 of this assignment will be a report of the findings from your interview so schedule your interview accordingly. Use the Rubric for how points are allocated and specifics about the assignment. Determine challenges that could arise when working with an HR business partner. Recommend strategies for nursing departments to communicate and partner with the HR department.
