Overview: For this assignment, due in Module Four, you will submit a brief 1- to 2-page paper discussing the various key factors that impact the public health workforce. In this short paper assignment—as well as in the Interview assignment also in Module Four—you will begin to assess the role that effective management principles play in public health leadership. You will also begin to build skills to understand the connection between management and policy. First, consider Chapter 10 of your textbook. The number and type of the public health workers needed depends on such factors as the health priorities of the population, the availability of healthcare services, and the social and political allocation of responsibility between government and the private sector. Discuss how these factors change over time and, as a result, how they impact the public health workforce. Next, consider Chapters 11 and 12 in your textbook. Building on your response to the prompt set forth above, explain the role that public health leaders can play in mitigating adverse impacts to the public health workforce. How does advocacy by health leaders influence the public health workforce? Be sure to provide examples to support your reasoning.
