COMPARE AND CONTRAST ESSAY For this essay you will pick a book and a movie of your choice (they do not have to be adaptations of one another, but they do have to contain elements of travel and magical realism as outlined in the course). You will pick elements from each of these and compare how they are both similar and different from one another using magical realism/the hero’s journey as your guidepost. Some of the questions you might consider when drafting your essay include (but are not limited to): What do the titles depict? What is the tone or mood of each piece? What themes do they address? How do they deviate from tradition or adhere to tradition? What plot, characterization, setting, theme, tone, and type of narration are used? There are other ways to visualize your essay before the writing stages as well, let yourself be creative and draft, draft, draft! You might need to consider drawing a Venn diagram.
