Acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease through disease or trauma.
Task Description Essay Select a patient for case study who has experienced either acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease through disease or trauma. You may wish to discuss your choice with your tutor (via email) prior to commencing writing. At all times you must maintain patient and organisational confidentiality by assigning the person a pseudonym and abiding by your organisations ethics policy on using patient information. Write a brief summary of the patient’s current health condition, relevant past and present history and any early management provided. This should be sufficient to set the scene for the reader and should take up no more than one (1) to one and a half (1½) pages. Critically analyse the renal-related health condition that the patient was, or is still, experiencing using evidence based findings. Focus on a different disease from the one you initially chose for Assessment one. The paper should introduce how the case is to be presented and organised and finish with a conclusion that draws the key themes together. Use scholarly Harvard references to support your discussion ensuring that you correctly reference your work. You must clearly demonstrate the related pathophysiology and management of the selected renal health condition in the body of your paper. Expand and discuss the patient’s nursing management by identifying and discussing key nursing interventions, including clinical assessment and management of complications. You may elect to include social, ethical and legal aspects where relevant. Justify and critique the interventions above by drawing on recent, evidence-based scholarly literature and propose recommendations for future practice if indicated. Note: this paper is not to focus on management by peritoneal or haemodialysis modalities as these are covered in another unit of study. Assessment Criteria Measures Intended Learning Outcome: Criterion 1 Demonstrates the ability to observe and describe aspects of the case by relating the pathophysiology and assessment findings to the patient’s clinical condition. Abides by ethical requirements of the relevant health institution. Backs up claims by referring to scholarly literature. Criterion 2 Describes, analyses and evaluates management of the patient comparing to recommended practice. Backs up claims by referring to scholarly literature. Criterion 3 Explains complications that the patient encounters as their disease progresses from kidney insufficiency or injury to end stage kidney disease (or recovery). Backs up claims by referring to scholarly literature. Criterion 4 Writes clearly in an appropriate academic style and structure and references accurately using the Harvard style required Task length 2500 words maximum
