Topic: Current challenging issues facing Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) advancement in the UAE society and/or the country in the area of Science, Health and/or Medicine.

Samples: The fight against genetic diseases Inherited genetic mutations do not decide your destiny anymore. With more than 400 genetic disorders in the UAE, the country’s health sector is focusing on empowering the community by raising awareness about prevention methods and early detection to reduce the incidence of genetic disorders. Cancer research Scientists are developing a system to deliver chemotherapy via a Nanoparticle injected into the body, allowing tumors to be targeted via ultrasound. Discuss.

Task 1. Research information about a topic of your choice around “diseases of focus in the UAE” as shown above and make notes (The grouo choice is diabetes)

Task 2. Prepare a report on your topic of choice. Your report should include a description on the following points. Allocated marks for each point is shown below: Rubric: Rubric 1. Students demonstrate understanding for two current challenging issues facing STEM advancement in the UAE society and/or the country in the area of Medicine. 2 x 2 Marks = 4 Marks 2. Students use two examples showing evidence for change on how the challenge has evolved (changed over time). 2 x 3 Marks= 6 Marks 3. Student analyzes one of the challenges in detail 3 Marks 4. Student discusses two solutions to help solve the problem/challenge. 2 Marks Student Mark CLO % 15% Format and Submission • The project should be presented in a professional format. (800 word limit including references and figures, 12-pt font, and 1.5 line-spacing). • It should have sections with appropriate titles, e.g. “The Importance of STEM in the UAE”. • Cite all images, websites, and reference your work with Author-Date style as shown below: Lo, B. and L.
