1. Choose one societal changes that has impacted contemporary family structure. Describe the resulting family structure. Do not repeat another student’s choice until all described in Rector have been discussed. Within this structure how do social determinants impact the health of this family? Identify potential capabilities, strengths and characteristics of a healthy family that you might as a community health nurse capitalize upon in planning this family’s care. 2. Evaluate safety in schools in your community. Discuss safety issues that are currently in place. Should they be different? Is school a safe place for our children to be each day? Discuss. 3. List specific interventions to support family caregivers of older adults who take on their caregiving duties. 4. What are the major differences between a developmental and situational crisis? Give examples of each from personal experiences. 5. Family violence is a significant public health problem. Assume that a battered wife becomes a community health nurses client, and the nurse suspects there may be more women with this problem in the community. Describe how the nurse might provide assistance using the crisis intervention steps discussed in Rector, Chapter 20. 6. Review the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services Elder Abuse Awareness website: https://chfs.ky.gov/dcbs/dpp/eaa/ Examine the 2015 Elder Abuse Report (link located on the right side of website). First look at the statistics given on pages 20 and 21 of the report. Would you classify elder abuse as a community health problem in Kentucky? Why or why not?
