Assignment 2: Displaying Data Presentation (21 points) This assignment provides the student with the opportunity to display patient safety, quality, and risk management data both visually and in narrative format. Students will present analysis of strategies to support and promote quality initiatives based on a culture of safety. Displayed data (tables, figures), a written explanation of the data, and evaluation of the alignment is the focus of the assignment. For example, if the data is about fall rate, the focus is not on falls and fall prevention, but data related to the falls. Assignment Criteria Include the following in the scholarly paper: 1. Utilize a data set from the students organization or a sample data set found in the Weekly Guide/Week 4. Additional resources and an exemplar are located in the Weekly Guide/Week 4. 2. Display the data for presentation to a team. Include the following: a. Trending b. Variances c. Target 3. Explain the displayed data as a narrative (minimum of two paragraphs for each data set such as a table or figure). 4. Include in the narrative an evaluation of how the data relates to patient safety, quality, and risk management 5. Evaluate the displayed data for visual clarity and clear interpretation of the trends, variances, and target. 6. Utilize tools available in spreadsheet, presentation, or other software to display the data. SmartArt is a useful tool within Microsoft products. Links to SmartArt resources are located in the Weekly Guide/Week 4. 7. Discuss recommendations to improve the presentation of the data so the data will be more useful to healthcare providers and all stakeholders. 8. The scholarly paper should be in narrative format, 4 to 5 pages including tables and figures and excluding the title and reference page. 9. Include an introductory paragraph, purpose statement, and a conclusion. 10. Include level 1 and 2 headings to organize the paper. 11. Write the paper in third person, not first person (meaning do not use we or I) and in a scholarly manner. To clarify: I, we, you, me, our may not be used. In addition, describing yourself as the researcher or the author should not be used. 12. Include a minimum of three (3) professional peer-reviewed scholarly journal references to support the paper (review in Ulrichs Periodical Directory) and be less than five (5) years old. 13. APA format is required (attention to spelling/grammar, a title page, a reference page, and in-text citations). 14. Refer to Chapter 5 in the APA Manual (6th ed.) for proper formatting and labeling of tables and figures. 15. Submit paper to Turnitin by clicking on the Assignment in Week 4, make any revisions necessary based on the Originality Report, submit by the posted due date by again clicking on the Assignment in Week 4.
