Does the nursing profession have enough evidence to support all nursing interventions or therapies?
Support for Nursing Profession
Paper details:
Hello I only need one page written, these are responses back to discussion boards. There are two part….half of the paper should answer this question “Does the nursing profession have enough evidence to support all nursing interventions or therapies? Explain your thinking.” and the second half should be a response to this post by another student “Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an invaluable tool for improving patient outcomes and decreasing healthcare costs worldwide. It has become increasing prevalent over the past few decades. Evidence-based practice is the notion of connecting scientific research to clinical practice using the most recent scholarly information available to direct patient care and decision making (Schaffer, Sandau, & Diedrick, 2013). I can remember a small example early in my career where I was training with a senior nurse in the ED regarding documentation of patient care and this is also when electronic documentation was just recently implemented in this department. The older nurse was not very familiar with the different facets and charting capabilities of the electronic medical record (EMR) and wanted her trainee to do paper charting even though it was already established and able to be done in the EMR. The trainee inquired about the need for double charting and the preceptor responded with “It is just how we do it”. This manor of thinking is not in line with critical thinking or evidence-based practice. It is important that we acknowledge the fact that many in the nursing profession predate the utilization of EBP and it is important that we support and motivate their transition into its importance towards providing better patient care (Rosser, 2015).
The writer has worked in departments where a focus on improving patient outcomes and decreasing healthcare costs were important at a system level. Some of the biggest issues in the Emergency Department (ED) are patient safety, care quality, and ED crowding. An example of how EBP can help to reduce medical cost, improve patient outcomes and increase ED throughput is the usage of EBP in regards to musculoskeletal disorders that frequently come through the ED. The “Old way” of handling a musculoskeletal disorder was simply order an x-ray but this is a lot of times not the best method of care. Certain cases need radiographs and some do not depending on the history of patient illness (HPI) or the mechanism of injury (MOI). Using EBP can save the patient from exposure to unnecessary radiation, provide them with quality care and decrease ED length of stay (LOS) (Shahzeb Khan, et al., 2014). ” For the second half keep this in mind “Responds substantively to at least one topic-related post of a student peer. A substantive post adds content or insights or asks a question that will add to the learning experience and/or generate discussion. ” Make sure to use a reference on both sections and use sub headings so that i know where you started the next section.
