Is there a balance between whole language v phonics instruction? -Do the students have an opportunity to engage in sustained silent reading, modelled reading, guided reading? -Is there evidence of environmental print in the classroom and how is it used/introduced? -Is there a class library and/or reading book? Are the students making use of it? -Which elements would you take away to use in your own classroom? On Tuesday, my instep is for kindergarden class. Mrs Davis have set up a 45 mins literacy class with separation of 4 groups. Group 1 students are on the ipad playing the eggy reading games. There would be a word or a letter provided in the egg, They need to recognise the words by tapping the egg when they see the correct word. The words would be more complex as the level goes higher. Group 2 students are provided with mini white board. Teacher will write some words on the board to allow student to try to copy it and build a sentence. Group 3 student are provided with eliminated paper with the letter a to z presented. Student have to match up letter with magenetics letters. Group 4, small group of 2-3 students will read a book with teacher.
