Is the IV empathy? It seems there are actually two DVs here, empathy and altruisim. The IV is actually the manipulation, which would be focus on thoughts vs. focus on feelings (these are not the same as empathy). You have the right idea here- but HOW will you have a person focus on thoughts vs. feelings? How can that be presented/ set up? How will you assess if it is the manipulation/ group assignment that resulted in the altruistic and empathy results or if the individual already had those levels ?
