Science Education: Chemical and Biological Sciences
Science Investigations: Activities that challenge. This assignment requires you to design four science investigative activities (not lesson plans) that provided an opportunity for students to challenge their misconceptions. The four activities will be based on student misconceptions in science, from Chemistry and Biology. The chemistry misconceptions: choose 2 from the three concepts listed: chemical reactions, dissolving, melting. The biological misconceptions: choose 2 from the three concepts listed: paleontology, living things, plants To begin, Identify the misconception, sources must be referenced, Design a science investigation to challenge student understanding. You can make use you use the science investigation planning framework in the PrimaryConnections units. You will, Present an appropriate context or narrative to justify why the science investigations relevant to the students, State the target level(s) of the students you are designing for; Identify the content descriptions used from the Australian Curriculum Science and Mathematics, State the student misconceptions, and Present the activities using the PrimaryConnections science investigation planning framework. And then, After you have designed your activities you must demonstrate that you have conducted one investigation with students, family, and friends. This demonstration should take the form of: Digital pictures (no more than one or two), if they are of people besides yourself, you must get permission, Safety/student management issue are addressed (use a risk form), and A critique of the problems you solved in conducting/doing the investigation and whether the activity challenged the misconception.
