Racism and Diversity in Institutional Life
Racism and Diversity in Institutional Life
A reflection that hones in on CHAPTERS 4 AND 5 of the Sara Ahmed’s book (attached) and is not just a mere summary of a text. In this close examination, you should focus on a key area that you find compelling and would like to explore further. (1) Appreciation: What is the authors argument? What methodology is employed? How does the author communicate their argument? (2) Critique: What are the limitations? What is missing? (3) (Re)Construct: What questions and comments do you have? What other possibilities do you see this work be taken up? Beyond the length requirement and the invitation to cite directly from the text to support your thinking, the reflection should show evidence of the following: Clarity and Cohesiveness: The ideas in the reflection are presented clearly, are easy to follow, and hang together. Substantive Contribution: The reflection contributes to a depth of understanding about the central concepts and assumptions presented in the text. Reflexivity The reflection critically and thoughtfully engages the contexts, issues, and concepts presented in the text(s). The reflection not only inquires about the perspectives presented, but also relates and contrasts these perspectives with the students identity, stance, and practice. Use of Sources Proper use of sources and in-text citations. Meaningful use of references. Outside sources/evidence is welcomed. Sensible and seamless integration of referenced material. Structure and Organization The paper follows presentation guidelines (e.g., length and spacing) and is well-written regarding the basic mechanics (e.g., grammar, spelling, and organization).
