Review paper with the title Roles of families in treatment of Substance Use Disorder Among US Veterans
This is a systematic Review paper with the title Roles of families in treatment of Substance Use Disorder Among US Veterans GENERAL OVERVIEW In this paper the specific focus is on veterans families and the role they play in the treatment for veterans with substance use disorders. Substance abuse should encompass alcohol and other substances. The studies you will use should stay focused on veterans’ families. Make sure to cite the DSM-V criteria, and as such you’d use only the terms substance use disorder. Main themes of this paper include the role of family members in substance abuse treatment, the other themes include risk factors that depend on gender, the type of military service (e.g., era, combat-exposure). Please make sure you emphasize the themes you find in the selected literature in the results section. The following are what needs to be discussed in each section. Please follow these instructions and dont deviate. APA Format to be used. INTRODUCTION Define “substance abuse” in the first paragraph and provide statistics about substance abuse (consistent with the way you define it) specific to veterans of each of the eras that you’ll discuss in the paper. Substance abuse should encompass alcohol and other substances. At the end of this first paragraph you could emphasize that theres an urgent need for information about this considering high rates of suicide (if you have data from the literature to support that). In the next paragraph of the introduction, PLEASE define “family engagement and what you mean by family engagement.” Is considering family engagement in this way something new? Does the idea originally come more from education-focused fields or counseling, rather than from healthcare? If so, you could discuss how you are conducting the present literature review with a specific focus on the role of families. Then if there are studies that you found that don’t fit into the purpose statement you can exclude them. METHODS State the methods very concisely. You would use PRISMA guidelines (PRISMA Figure should be send separately in a different word document), State search strategy, study criteria, Data Abstraction, Synthesis and Quality Appraisal (Use quality appraisal tool developed by Olsen and Baisch). RESULTS In this section please stay very focus on the main themes of the paper which include the role of family members in substance abuse treatment, risk factors that depend on gender, the type of military service (e.g., era, combat-exposure). Was there something about different groups of veterans having different rates of substance abuse (based on age and which operations they served in)? Or different risk factors as mentioned above? Different family characteristics? Is this review the first paper to demonstrate this? Based on what you find, is it possible to conclude that specific veteran characteristics and specific family characteristics are predictors of good or poor outcomes? If family support will enhance prevention or treatment outcomes, what are the specific factors that providers need to consider. ONLY 10 good research articles that focus on veterans families should be reviewed in the results section. All the 10 research articles should be synthesized in this results section. However, you could cite as many as 60 other relevant articles throughout the paper but you are reviewing 10 articles on the themes in the result section. Be sure that you are including only research in the review and not reviewing review papers. If you get a lot of studies focused on family, you could restrict it to RTCs only. Organize the results by the themes (role of family members in substance abuse treatment, risk factors that depend on gender, the type of military service (e.g., era, combat-exposure). Since roles of families or family engagement is the main focus of the review, therefore all of this information should be discussed within the results section /context. Please make sure that the purpose of doing the systematic review is to reach new conclusions that no individual study could achieve.
