Details ‘Empowerment’ refers to the process by which people gain control over the factors and decisions that shape their lives. It is the process by which they increase their assets and attributes and build capacities to gain access, partners, networks and/or a voice, in order to gain control. People gain empowerment through knowledge, skills and motivation. Empowerment assumes that people are their own assets, and maintain control over their own determinants that influence health (WHO 2018). In your chosen group of (4-5 students), review the concept of empowerment, engagement and motivation in health. In your assessment, formulate a concept map which considers what these terms mean and what strategies can be used to empower, engage and motivate your audience. The concept maps will be informed by the topic you have chosen and the information identified in assessment 1. Remember to consider the age of the people at risk of your chosen topic, and what factors you may need to consider getting the audience engaged in your health promotion campaign that will evoke motivation and empowerment for behavior change (which will inform assessment 3). All ideas should all be mapped out in this project and supported by evidence. In addition to your visual map, students will be required to submit a 1000-word essay explain their maps. The concept map can be worked on as a group (4-5) however the 1000-word description must be submitted individually.
The essay / description will follow on from assessment 1. In this essay you must, • A definition of the concepts of engagement, empowerment and motivation in the context of health promotion (with supporting references) • You must also be able to explain the linkage of your map which will display and describe the determinants that influence health for your chose topic and age groups (with supporting evidence). Consider age, gender, media platforms, social determinants of health. • Students should use this an opportunity to tease out, the knowledge required to promote engagement, empowerment and motivation for your health group and provide a brief summary or plan for assessment 3. Student will consider how the knowledge from assessment 1 and assessment 2 will help with the construction of assessment 3 (creating a health promotion platform for the target audience of the chosen topic).
