Drugs have been part of human life for many years. Created to help humanity, to overcome and prevent diseases and discomfort, and improve health. Unfortunately, drugs have been misused and turned into an abuse problem, which affects not only the abusers, but also healthcare providers and the society. This paper will examine the evidence and the factors that lead to drug abuse, age group associated with this phenomenon, the factors that lead to a drug addiction, and how Pender’s Health Promotional Model (HPM) along with cognitive learning, can help minimize this issue.
