Your research paper must be your own work. Research Paper Organization–Your research paper will be presented in three sections and you will need a works cited page: Section 1–Introduction: In this brief section (about 1 page), you will identify your research question and explain why you chose it. In this section, there will be NO RESEARCH. You will explain anything about your personal background that is relevant to the topic or to your interest in the topic. You MAY look at some of the following questions: What has your exposure been to this issue? What do you already know? Why do you want to explore this topic? You will use first person point of view (“I”) in this section. Be sure to pose your exact research question in this section. Section 2–Research: In this section (about 3-5 pages), you will report your research findings. You will be citing and quoting your sources (1 or more website based, 2 or more scholarly articles/evidence based nursing research papers) and commenting on what you learn. Remember, you are not just presenting other people’s ideas, you are also discussing how and why they matter. This is an essential piece, so do not leave it out. You must use at least five sources (1-2 sources can be an interview), and your discussion in this section should, if relevant, include some discussion of the validity of your sources. Section 3–Analysis/Solutions: In this section (about 1 page), you will also use first person point of view (“I”) to discuss your findings in terms of how they will change the way you live your life , think about your topic and how they will change your nursing career. This is the “so what?” section, where you talk about why your findings matter/they will affect you. Section 4—Works Cited: You need a page at the end of your essay that lists all of your sources. YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 5 sources. Refer to the APA handout and utilize the Student Resource Center for Assistance/ instructions and examples on how to do your works cited page.
