What kind of evidence does the author draw upon? A statement about the authors goals and his/her intended audience.
The annotated bibliography will require you to write about the top two cited articles attached. Annotating these two articles help you touch on the important theoretical work that has been done onyour topic and within the journal. Your bibliography will consist of 2 entries. Each bibliographic entry will be in APA style and include a 1-2 paragraph summary (thesis, purpose, justification, main points) of the scholarly article (not from the article abstract) and a 1-2 paragraph explanation of how this article might relate to your larger literaturereview. You will turn in the first page of each article with the annotated bibliography. Expected length: 1-2 pages. See Below: WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY? An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph or two; the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited. APA 6th Style format Waite, L. J., Goldscheider, F. K., & Witsberger, C. (1986). Nonfamily living and the erosion of traditional family orientations among young adults. American Sociological Review. 51 541-554. The authors, researchers at the Rand Corporation and Brown University, use data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Young Women and Young Men to test their hypothesis that nonfamily living by young adults alters their attitudes, values, plans, and expectations, moving them away from their belief in traditional sex roles. They find their hypothesis strongly supported in young females, while the effects were fewer in studies of young males. Increasing the time away from parents before marrying increased individualism, self-sufficiency, and changes in attitudes about families. In contrast, an earlier study by Williams cited below shows no significant gender differences in sex role attitudes as a result of living. This article supports my claim that nonfamily living is one way in which young people can become independent. Each annotated bibliography entry should begin by identifying the source in correct American Psychological Association Style documentation (a.k.a APA), as exemplified above. The above example does not include everything you will be required to include. See below for the assignment requirements: You will then need to write what the authors purpose, justification main points, and how it relates to your research in an annotation of 1-2 paragraphs: A brief description of the author’s topic (a summary of the issue), thesis (central statement that forecasts what they will do/claim/prove and how), purpose(what do they want the reader to do/know), justification (why is it important NOW), method(how did they do the research) and a concise outline of the mainpoints (how do they attempt to prove the thesis) in the text. In other words, in what academic discipline does the author locate themselves (history, literature, social science, women’s studies, cultural studies, etc.)? Why should we care? What kind of evidence does the author draw upon? A statement about the authors goals and his/her intended audience. MOST IMPORTANTLY–Your critical evaluation of the texts usefulness for the investigation of your topic. Focus on what theme this could contribute to for your entire lit review.
