Write 10-minute running notes of one (1) childs physical movements and social interactions.
running notes. Procedure Physical Description (20 points) Describe the physical characteristics of two children in the class. This exercise is to help you note the obvious individual differences in the physical characteristics of the children. List at least five characteristics for each child. Example: Fred Ethel Shorter than most children Shoulder length, straight, blonde hair Short light brown curly hair Heavier than most girls Blue eyes Hazel eyes Slightly long face Plump cheeks, oval face Thinner than most children Shorter than most children NOTE: Descriptive phrases such as smiles a lot, very active, and wearing a blue shirt and green pants are not acceptable. They are not precise and they are not permanent characteristics. Running Notes (10 points) Write 10-minute running notes of one (1) childs physical movements and social interactions. Remember to note the time the movements occur and the facts (i.e. the childs actual behavior). Your objective is to paint a picture of the childs every action, every move, and every word. Remember to be as detailed as you can and avoid drawing conclusions about a childs mood or motivations. For example you would write K. picked the crayon up in his left hand, made three circles on the paper. K. put the crayon down and walked to the block area. You would not write, K. does not seem interested in drawing today. You cannot make assumptions of their behavior. Interpretation (20 points) Write a brief interpretation of your childs actions during the ten minutes you observed him/her. This would be the place for you to draw conclusions about the childs behavior, such as K. is a lively four-year-old child and seems to be well liked by his peers. He seems to be a leader and is a very verbal child (uses lots of words). Please make sure that your conclusions are supported by your running notes. *Your paper will include the physical characteristics of the two children and your brief interpretation (that includes your 10-minute running notes). It should be typed, double spaced, with a 12 point Times New Roman font. Your margin should be left justified for all papers. *You will turn in your running notes. These notes are generally messy, so dont worry about that! Just take a picture or scan them and attach it to your drop box.
