write a 5-6 page research paper exploring a social problem.
This semester, you will have the opportunity to write a 5-6 page research paper exploring a social problem. You will use information from course readings and scholarly sources (journal articles) as the basis for this assignment. This research paper gives you the chance to connect the major ideas from this course to outside materials and current events and use the sociological imagination to consider the influence of social problems in our daily life and analyze the connection between individuals and institutions. Your research paper will need to include the following: An introduction to your topic, including a clear thesis statement explaining your stance on the topic. This should be approximately 1 page. Development of 3-4 major points that support your thesis. You will support these points with specific examples from your research, relevant discussion, and thoughtful reflection. Each point should be developed by 2-4 (solid) paragraphs. Inclusion of research from at least 10 outside sources. These may include books, journal articles, newspaper articles (reputable), and websites. However, only 3 sources may come from a website, and those need to be reputable and not just opinion blogs. Sociological application. You will describe what theories from the book apply best to your topic and why. This should be 2-3 paragraphs. Reflection and analysis. In this portion of the paper, you will describe why your topic is important. What possible solutions could we implement? What does it suggest for the future? Do you have any suggestions for public policy based on your research? This should be approximately 3-4 paragraphs. Your paper should be typed and saved as a Microsoft Word Document using 10 -12 pt font, double spaced and formatted in either ASA or APA style. *If your paper does not include both in-text citations and a reference page you will receive an automatic 0 for plagiarism.
