Directions You are to develop a plan to prepare parents and general educators for their participation in an interactive team. The assignment is divided into three parts. You will first provide parents and teachers with foundational knowledge about IEPs, including the referral process LRE, FAPE, TRANSITION PLANS and community partners. Then in Part II, you will design a training of 3 lessons for parents and your peers. The plan will include objectives, a description, and training lessons and include all stated elements. Part III is a 4-6+ page Analysis /Reflection. This is written in narrative and you will explain what you learned in the process of this assignment and how you will apply and use this learning in your work as a teacher. This assignment may be completed independently or in collaboration. Collaboration Guidelines: Collaboration is encouraged and these guidelines must be followed ? Each candidate will submit the assignment to the drop box. ? Groups of two four may work on one assignment together. The groups need to change members for each assignment ? A brief summary (100-150) words should be submitted with any collaborative assignment that discusses the collaborative experience and lessons learned. The plan will first include FAQ s for parents and teachers. This may be done as a flyer, a brochure, etc. (There are many free templates available online) 1. Creative FAQ for parents and one for educators Parent FAQ Components- reference law to each o Explanation of IEP process o Explanation of eligibly with RtI, FAPE, LRE o Components of IEP- – 8 elements o Checklist for parent preparation for meeting o The role of parents as IEP team members, including transitional IEP’s. o Procedural safeguards rights Teacher FAQ Components- reference law to each o Explanation of IEP process o Explanation of eligibly with RtI, FAPE, LRE, o Components of IEP- – 8 elements o Checklist for teacher preparation for meeting o The role of teachers as IEP team members, including transitional IEP’s. o Program planning o Procedural safeguards o Description of the use of technology in IFSP/IEPs, o Acknowledgment of teachers cultural linguistic diversity and how it may impact their goals for the student and communication with team members. 2. PART 2: Training For Each Group You will design a training of 2 lessons for each group. The plan will include all elements listed below: Training for parents or community a) Objectives & Description: A list of objectives for the training b) Outline of the Training or unit description for the training sequence depicting trainings long term planning. This section should be viewed as a description similar to a thematic unit and how this unit fits into the long-term curriculum of staff development. c) Detailed Training Lessons (3) to include activities that participants will engage in .This section should be viewed as your actual lesson plan. You will need to provide enough description of the activities and lecture so that someone else will be able implement the training session. d) List of potential follow-up activities e) Materials Include copies of all PowerPoint presentations handouts, & activities. Sample letters, agenda, handouts, etc. should be included f) Evaluation tool – a copy of the evaluation instrument to be used. How will you evaluate what participants learned? You may wish to include a pre and posttest or other means of evaluating if objectives were met. g) A List of References used to develop the experience, written in APA Style. (6th).
