DO ADVERTISERS USE HEALTH BEHAVIOR THEORIES?

DO ADVERTISERS USE HEALTH BEHAVIOR THEORIES?
July 6, 2019 Off All,

For this response, please provide clear and descriptive examples from your experiences or examples from others that you have heard/read about. Companies promote a variety of health behaviors (physical activity, weight loss, and healthy eating), but their intent is to make more money, not to make us healthy. With such different motivations, why are these pictures so similar? What emotions do these images convery? Do you think advertisements can encourage people to become healthier? Why or Why not? If you have ever been inspired to be healthier because of an advertisement, what about the advertisement inspried you to make changes? Now please apply your readings to the following questions as you progress through the rest of the week’s discussions. Identify an advertisement that looks like it might be promoting a healthy behavior (e.g., physical activity, weight loss, and healthy eating). Think about advertisements for fitness gadgets, athletic clothing, shoes, grocery stores, and diet aids. Post the advertisement and describe how it relates to one or more concepts in one of the intrapersonal or interpersonal theories you’ve read about in the text. You might need to get a little creative by telling us the “story” behind the image so we can understand what you see in the picture. Be sure to provide the source for the picture (e.g., web site or magazine).
