There is an introduction plus four learning modules in this online tutorial. The entire tutorial is 50 minutes long.
Identify and briefly state the following for both research studies at the end of Chapter 1 of the text.
Task 1A – Quantitative Example and Task 1B – Qualitative Example:
a. The research design
b. The rationale for the choice of the research design
c. The major characteristics of the research design, including research procedures, method of analysis, and major conclusions
Task 1C – Analyze the brief descriptions of the five research studies below by reading each description and deciding whether the study represents a survey, correlational, causal-comparative, experimental, single-subject, narrative, ethnographic, or case study approach. State the research approach for each topic statement and support why you selected the approach. Your reasons should be related to characteristics that are unique to the type of research selected.
a. In this study, researchers administered a questionnaire to determine how social studies teachers felt about teaching world history to fifth-graders.
b. This study was conducted to determine whether the Acme Interest Test provided similar results to the Acne Interest Test.
c. This study compared the achievement in reading of fifth-graders from single-parent families and those from two-parent families.
d. This study divided fifth-grade students in a school into two groups at random and compared the results of two methods of conflict resolution on students’ aggressive behavior.
e. This study examined the culture of recent Armenian emigrants in their new setting.
Task 1D – Identify and briefly state the following for both research studies at the end of Chapter 1 of the text: Ethical issues that the authors experienced and how they were addressed. (See Performance Criteria, p. 75).
