For this assignment, you will select a primary source included in the chapter(s) that we read this week. As a reminder, each chapter that you will read contains multiple blue-colored pages with a dark blue heading entitled Primary Source (example: Chapter 11, page 412). You will then analyze this primary source by doing three things: Discuss the content: What, exactly, is in this primary source? What is it about and what are the specifics? What does it tell us about this time period in history? Explore the context: What civilization does this come from and what were some of the major defining characteristics of this civilization? What was the world like at the time this source was created? Articulate the significance: What is important about this source? How does it help advance our understanding the civilization it came and history in general? You should incorporate these answers into a short paper that addresses these questions in paragraph form, discussing them using specifics, and referencing the source. Your completed assignment should meet the following requirements: It should be at least 450-500 words in length; cover pages and/or Works Cited pages do not count toward this total. It should include a primary source from the assigned readings for the week. It should demonstrate college-level writing and be free from simple proofreading errors; grammar and spelling will factor into your grade. It should utilize 12-point Times New Roman or Arial font, be double-spaced, and have 1-inch margins on each side. It should NOT include any other outside sources; you will only be discussing the primary source from the textbook using your own words.
